A Speculative History of the Polaroid

A Speculative History of the Polaroid

Mon | Apr 26-May 17 | 7:00 PM-8:30 PM
4 Sessions
Ages: Adults (16+) | $85 | Mary Blackburn

Together let us analyze the technological and political conditions into which the Polaroid photograph was introduced by E. Land. By sidestepping commercial and institutional dark rooms, fresh and weird terrains of documentation, portraiture and pornography opened up. Let us examine the way in which being and being a body is both shaped and compromised by instant photography.  We will examine a range of work: some art; some art brut;  some industrial; some corporate; some snapped by scientists as field work; moreover, we have the option to incorporate polaroids from your personal archive into our analyses.

Class format: We will meet together using Zoom video conferencing. An invite will be emailed to you before the first class session, and you'll need internet access on your computer, tablet, or phone to participate.
