Staying at home, away from school and work routines, has undoubtedly challenged families to stay busy. But have you taken time as a family to process the mixed emotions that the coronavirus crisis has created? How are your children processing the confusion, loss and grief associated with the disruption of routines and separation from friends, teachers and social activities? Consider the power of guided prompts for parent/child discussion and word-image creations. Through shared stories, prompts and art demonstrations, Claire McCarthy will guide family members to process conflicting feelings through off-screen private parent/child discussions, then document discoveries through journaling and creating art to share with the class (optional).  As some form of normalcy returns, looking back at these times may be a blur. But consider the power of having artifacts created through shared family activities for future reflection by both generations, a.k.a. “Corona Chronicles.” And perhaps, more importantly, consider empowering your children now by creating a safe place for you both to express the mixed emotions of this extended “time out.”
