Marisol Ortega Master Class: Floral Painting + Digital Collage

Ages: Adults (16+) | $75 | Marisol Ortega

In this masterclass with Seattle-based artist Marisol Ortega, we will start by exploring the analog world of loose floral painting and markmaking using watercolor and black ink.

You'll learn to think about organic shapes, create interest with positive and negative space, and compose for a digital collage. After painting, we will go over scanning your physical artwork, cleaning it up in Adobe Photoshop, removing the background and isolating the various elements, and combining them into a digital floral collage in Adobe Photoshop. This specialized hybrid process of analog and digital is key to Marisol's work as a painter, designer, and illustrator, and it allows her to bring a unique hand-made aesthetic to the many digital applications of her work. This masterclass is perfect for anyone who enjoys painting, collage, digital art, and graphic design – including those who feel intimidated by digital art!

We will use Zoom for this masterclass, and you will have access to the full video recording afterward. This means you can follow along and create your own painting as Marisol creates hers, or you can simply observe her process, ask questions, and review the video later. There will be a moderator to field your questions and assist with any technical difficulties. For those without a scanner, you will be given access to some of Marisol's files to experiment with in Photoshop. Ahead of the workshop you can download a free trial of Photoshop here.
