This class will explore the many ways to create a collagraph plate and adding monotype to create multi-layered prints. There is a certain unpredictability in the creation of the collagraph and adding monotypes into the mix makes this process exciting with endless possibilities. The basic process for making collagraph plates is sculptural. A flat plate is given contour by the addition of textures and shapes. The plate is inked in an intaglio manner or rolled and printed on a press. Learn a variety of ways to ink and wipe plates with Akua soy-based inks. A monotype is a painting or drawing on a non-absorbent surface with paints or ink. When run through the press, the medium is transferred in reverse to a sheet of paper. We will be exploring the possibilities of the layered print when combining collagraph and monotype. Whether you are a complete beginner to printmaking or just want to explore printing techniques at a different level this class is for you.
